Tata Nano
Today was the launch of the Tata Nano – a 2 cylinder (0.6 liter engine, that’s 38 cubic inches) car with a mere length of 3.1 meters (about 10 feet). Will this car impact society like the Ford Model T and Volkswagen Beetle? Between 1908 and 1927 over 15 million Model T’s were manufactured. New Model T’s sold for about $300 in the 1920’s (that’s a little over $3,200 in today’s dollars). Between 1938 and 2003 Volkswagen produced over 20 million Beetles. How will Tata Motors make history? Tata Motors is the largest automotive company in India. And India has a population of 1.15 billion people. You do the math. Within the last year, Tata purchased Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Company. How much is the Tata Nano? The Nano has a base price of about $2,250. No, the Nano is not available in North America yet, but with Detroit struggling, who knows what their next move will be! For more information about Tata Motors, go to www.TataMotors.com.
